Centro The Glen reviews all facets of waste and water management including the recycling of all waste cardboard, paper, plastics & polystyrene foam, greasy waste and used oils. Water management is the biggest component of this strategy.
How is water used at Centro The Glen?
Water is used in the centre for:
- Cleaning (washing of floors and the use of floor scrubbing machines)
- Tenant use (cooking, dishwashing, preparation of food and fish products, washing down of work areas, use of water cooled refrigeration systems)
- Toilets
- Irrigation (the sprinkler watering of plants and trees)
Water Conservation Initiatives:
- Fitting of restrictor valves to all tap sets in both tenanted and public areas
- Changing all toilet cisterns to the dual flush type
- Continual inspections of all building areas to pinpoint any possible leaking service mains
Operational Improvements:
To help monitor the centre's water use the following activities are now in place:
- Install check meters to measure water use in specific areas
- Weekly walk through of centre to check for leaks
- Weekly reading of all water meters
Environmental Improvements:
Water use within the centre has reduced by 18% in 2005/2006 thanks to the efforts of the tenants and Centre Management working together to conserve a valuable resource.
